BORDEAUX 2019 SUBSKRIPTION BEI EXTRAPRIMA Verkostungsnotizen Thomas Boxberger Château Trotanoy im Duft mit unglaublicher Frische und anziehender Intensität mit dunkelbeeriger Aromatik, ganz distinguiert, souverän und aristokratisch im Geruch, unendlich weit, kräuterwürzig und saturiert. Satt und würzig im Mund, mit dunkler Frucht, Graphit und Teer von Beginn an, baut sich der kathedralenhafte Trotanoy zu unglaublicher Intensität und in Stein gemeisselter Fülle auf. Ein Merlot-Monument von großer Reichhaltigkeit und dennoch zeigt er sich zurückhaltend und wenig schwelgerisch, trotz nicht enden wollender Extraktintensität. Ganz aus einem Guss gearbeitet und nahtlos geschliffen, präsentiert sich dieser Trotanoy von einer Präzision und Tiefe wie es nur wenige reinsortige Merlots vermögen. Dezente Schokoladigkeit, enorm finessenreich und schwebend am Gaumen, sehr lang, nichts steht im Vordergrund, alles ist perfekt balanciert, ewig lang und immer nachsaftend lang. Ein grandioser Trotanoy, der durch Verrieselung bedauerlicherweise einen geringen ertrag hatte. Suckling 98 – 99 | Wow. So tight with fantastic quality to the exquisite, polished tannins. It’s full-bodied, savory and beautiful. The tannins are nearly perfectly integrated, just melting into the wine. This goes on and on. Martin 97 – 99 | The 2019 Trotanoy was picked on a single day – 21 September and is matured in 50 % new oak. Now this has a more backward bouquet than say Hosanna or La Fleur-Pétrus, biding its time before revealing extraordinarily pure black fruit laced with ethereal crushed stone and discrete blood orange scents. It displays astonishing delineation. The palate is utterly harmonious, quite dense yet refined and graceful. Hints of dark chocolate and truffle emerge towards the finish as it fans out gloriously. Quite simply, one of the best Pomerols … again. 2019 CHÂTEAU L’EGLISE-CLINET Pomerol 375,61 €/Ltr. 281,71 € Suckling 99 – 100 | Parker 98 – 100 | Galloni 97 – 99 | Martin 97 – 99 LIMITIERTE VERFÜGBARKEIT Suckling 99 – 100 | An exceptional Eglise-Clinet with density and richness, yet so racy and chewy. It harkens back to classic ECs, such as 1998 or 1989. Full-bodied with gorgeous, pure fruit. The tannins are so beautiful and intense. A wine with real soul. One of the greats. Parker 98 – 100 | Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 L’Eglise Clinet has a powerfully fragrant nose of violets, star anise, powdered cinnamon and jasmine over a core of plum preserves, blackberry pie, Black Forest cake and camphor with wafts of crushed rocks and iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in poise and precision, possessing remarkably well-defined, bright, energetic black fruit and minerally layers, supported by beautifully ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with a long-lingering, mesmerizing array of earth, rock and glittery fruit nuances. This is a wine that will stop you in your tracks and demand you to think, contemplate and reflect. And if all that isn’t enough, it is also fantastically delicious. The blend this year is 90 % Merlot and 10 % Cabernet Franc. Galloni 97 – 99 | The 2019 L’Eglise-Clinet, Denis Durantou’s last vintage, is also very clearly one of the wines of the year. A Pomerol of soaring, majestic intensity L’Eglise-Clinet dazzles from start to finish. Layers of dark fruit, gravel, spice and dried flowers unfold over time. I followed this sample for several days and it never lost any intensity over that time. I find the 2019 incredibly elegant and polished, but then again, I also tasted it a few months later than normal because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Merlot was harvested from September 18 to 26, while the Franc came all in on the 26 th . Readers who can find the 2019 should not hesitate, as it is a true masterpiece. Martin 97 – 99 | The 2019 L’Eglise-Clinet is destined to be remembered as Denis Durantou’s last vintage before he passed away in May 2020. It is a fitting testament to the late winemaker. It is blessed with a bewitching bouquet laden with intense, vivid red berry fruit suffused with liquorice, black pepper and clove scents. Extremely complex. The palate is wonderfully proportioned with fine tannins that frame the layered black and red fruit, lightly spiced with hints of tobacco and cracked black pepper on the finish imparted by that seasoning of Cabernet Franc. Quintessential l’Eglise-Clinet, it will give half a century of drinking pleasure and the perfect way to remember and raise a toast to one of Pomerol’s finest vignerons. 2019 CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT-BRION 2. TRANCHE Péssac-Léognan rouge 388,61 €/Ltr. 291,46 € extraprima 98 – 99 | Suckling 99 – 100 | Parker 98 – 100 | Martin 98 – 100 extraprima 98 – 99 | Der hervorragende La Mission Haut-Brion besteht aus 53 % Merlot, 7,5 % Cabernet Franc und 39,5 % Cabernet Sauvignon mit 14,6 % Alkohol. Dunkle, satte Farbe. Im Geruch zeigt der monumentale La Mission großartige Tiefe und endlose Weite, ganz frisch und kühl, unablässig und nicht enden wollend. Dicht, süß, cremig und kompakt besitzt er im Mund eine große Gerbstoffausbeute mit ausgezeichnetem Grip und großem Tiefgang. Endlos süß, reichhaltig und komplex, zeigt sich dieser große, geschmeidige La Mission unglaublich tief, ewig lang und weit im Nachhall. Suckling 99 – 100 | A tight and structured La Mission that takes you deep into the glass with super intensity and power. The tannins are omnipresent and envelop the palate. It’s full-bodied yet agile and complete. Iodine, sweet-tobacco and blackberry character. It seems never to finish. Another WOW wine that reminds me of some of the great classics of this estate, such as the 1955. Parker 98 – 100 | The 2019 La Mission Haut-Brion is composed of 53 % Merlot, 39.5 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.5 % Cabernet Franc, harvested from the 11 th of September to the 2 nd of October. Very deep purple-black in color, it slowly unfurls in the glass to reveal a beguiling perfume of violets, Black Forest cake, wild blueberries and kirsch with nuances of star anise, cast-iron pan, pencil lead and crushed rocks plus a waft of wild sage. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with layers of black fruit, earth and floral-laced flavors, framed by exquisitely ripe, finely grained tannins and compelling freshness, finishing with great length and loads of mineral sparks. A wine of impeccable breeding, both decadently flamboyant and provocatively graceful, this is already a prodigious wine of indisputable beauty. Martin 98 – 100 | The 2019 La Mission Haut-Brion was picked from 11 September until 2 October at 52 hl / ha. It is deep purple in colour. It has a very intense, what you might call quite »serious« bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, crushed iris petals and a light estuarine influence. It shows exquisite delineation and focus. The palate is stunning with intense black fruit laced with crushed stone, sea salt, black pepper and cedar, almost Pauillac in style. This La Mission is so pixelated with stupendous intensity. After four hours it closes up and appears cowed by the presence of the expressive Haut-Brion. Yet after 8 hours it is unquestionably showing greater structure and depth than the First Growth and, as such, despite its mercurial nature, I wager that ultimately this will become one of the wines of the vintage. Breathtaking. Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2019 CHÂTEAU ANGÉLUS St.-Emilion 410,71 €/Ltr. 308,03 € extraprima 99 | Suckling 98 – 99 | Parker 97 – 99 | Galloni 95 – 97 | Martin 96 – 98 Das Château Angélus teilte vor der Preiseröffnung mit, dass man den Preis für den 2019er nicht zu weit senken könne, da man ja bereits mit 2017 und 2018 jeweils eine Preissenkung (Anmerkung: im einstelligen Prozentbereich) durchgeführt habe. Nun ist der Preis für den 2019er um knapp 9 % gesunken. extraprima 99 | Da es in 2019 während der Hitzephase kühlere Nächte gab, besitzt der Angélus 2019 mehr Frische als der 2018er. Die Vinifikation folgte eher dem Vorbild einer Infusion, denn die Extraktion kam von ganz alleine. Der 2019er Angélus besteht aus 60 % Merlot und 40 % Cabernet Franc. 11 % Ausbau in 30-Hektoliter-Fudern für den Cabernet Franc brachte eine knackige Frische, die der Franzose als 'croquant’ bezeichnet. Schwarze Farbe, locker und viskos. Tief und dicht, duftet der große Angélus wie in einer Draufsicht aus der Vogelperspektive, denn noch kann man nicht eintauchen. Mit süßlicher Note duftet er etwas nach Amarena-Kirschen, Graphit, Grillkohle und einer kirschig-dunkelbeerigen Kernaromatik, umhüllt von feinem, cremigem Holz ohne Röstigkeit. Ganz offen und weit im Mund, zeigt er sich enorm cremig, mit viel Schmelz und toller, weit gefasster Struktur mit grandioser Würze. In seinem jugendlichen Stadium ist er noch etwas mittig auf der Zunge konzentriert und sollte sich noch in die Breit entwickeln. Sehr frisch, mit knackiger Säure, sehr lang, mit dunkler Fruchtkomponente im Nachhall, die viel Rasse, Frische und Länge besitzt, Graphit, likörig süß. Suckling 98 – 99 | An extremely refined and sharpened Angelus with super fine tannins and sweet ripe fruit in the center palate. It’s full-bodied, yet tight and so very polished. Silky. Very subtle. Bright blue fruit, black fruit and stones. Supple and minerally. 60 % Merlot and 40 % Cabernet Franc. Parker 97 – 99 | Composed of 60 % Merlot and 40 % Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Angélus was harvested from the 13 th of September until the 4 th of October. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with gregarious scents of Morello cherries, lilacs, chocolate box and potpourri with a core of Black Forest cake, blueberry crumble, fragrant soil and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the intensity on the palate builds from delicate, beguiling nuances with ethereal weight to a full-on fireworks display of flavor sparks, framed by fantastic freshness and very finely pixilated tannins, finishing long, layered and invigorating. Galloni 95 – 97 | The 2019 Angélus is absolutely brilliant. Rich and driving in intensity, yet also light on its feet for such a big wine, Angélus has a ton to offer in 2019. Red / purplish fruit licorice, new leather, cinnamon, grilled herbs and lavender add striking layers of character nuance. The 2019 is super-elegant and precise, but with all of the textural richness readers have come to expect from Angélus. The blend is 60 % Merlot and 40 % Cabernet Franc, with the Franc quite expressive, especially in the wine’s aromatic profile. One of the recent developments has been a move towards a greater use of cask for the Franc, an approach that has so far paid off handsomely. Martin 96 – 98 | The 2019 Angélus has a sophisticated bouquet with extraordinarily pure blackberry, raspberry, inkwell and crushed iris petals scents, like the Carillon but HD in terms of its clarity. The palate is beautifully defined on the entry, the Cabernet component steering it towards say, Figeac or Cheval Blanc stylistically. It already feels very harmonious, the satin-like texture is supported by real substance and grip on the finish, perhaps more density than some of its peers.
