Er verfügt über eine schwarze Farbe. Tiefgründig, verhalten und reserviert erscheint er im Geruch sehr distinguiert, mit zarter, süßlich-liköriger Frucht im Fond. Satt, dicht und klar präsentiert der Carruades 2020 seine grandiosen, distinguierten Gerbstoffe mit echter Lafite-Prägung, absolut reif und feinkörnig, mit großartigem Terroirausdruck. Locker konkurriert dieser Zweitwein mit einem echten Lafite aus den 90ern! Tief, lang und hochfein, mit nobler Delikatesse und aristokratischer Finesse bleibt er immer frisch, lang und nachsaftend. Suckling 96 – 97 |This is very classically structured with a palate that starts off slowly. Full-bodied and chewy with a soft, creamy texture and a long finish. Savory. A touch austere. 52 % cabernet sauvignon, 42 % merlot and 3 % cabernet franc, the rest petit verdot. Parker 91 – 93 | Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Carruades de Lafite, like its big sibling, is a little youthfully shy to begin, soon unfurling to offer notes of Morello cherries, raspberry leaves, baked blackberries and spice box, plus suggestions of pencil lead, lavender and Provence herbs. The medium-bodied palate is chock-full of juicy black fruits, framed by velvety tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and lifted. This 2020 is a blend of 52 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 42 % Merlot, 3 % Cabernet Franc and 3 % Petit Verdot. Galloni 91 – 93 | The 2020 Carruades de Lafite is so expressive right out of the gate. Sage, mint, dried herbs, tobacco and incense grace the Carruades with gorgeous aromatic presence. A backbone of fine tannins lends energy and direction. Medium in body and impeccably refined, the 2020 Carruades is shaping up to be a gem.

Seit dem Jahrgang 2017 kommen auf Lafite-Rothschild mit 10 – 15 % Anteil allerdings auch Fässer von anderen Tonnellerien zum Einsatz als nur die eigenen. Vom 9. bis 29. September wurde gelesen, der Ertrag lag bei 36 hl / ha, davon ist etwa ein Drittel in den Grand Vin gelangt. Der 2020er Lafite-Rothschild besteht aus 92 % Cabernet Sauvignon gefolgt von Merlot und Petit Verdot in den Proportionen sieben zu eins, ausgebaut in 100 % neuen Barriquefässern mit 12,8 % Alkohol. Der Farbkern ist dunkel, von mittlerer Viskosität. Zurückhaltend und zunächst zart und fein, beginnt der tiefgründige Geruch des Lafite 2020 mit etwas frischem Leder, viel Agrumen und delikater Würze, ewig weit und unendlich erscheinend, mit Graphit und einem dezenten Anflug von Schokolade. Sehr distinguierter Auftakt im Mund mit weichen, cremigen Gerbstoffen zu Beginn, dann nimmt der Lafite Fahrt und Spannung auf und entwickelt nachhaltigen Druck und Kraft. Seine fleischige Mitte und den kraftvollen Körper nimmt man erst im Nachhall wahr. Die Kernaromatik erscheint noch recht verschlossen und reduziert, man spürt allerdings die innere Verdichtung und drahtig-fleischige Präsenz am Gaumen. Hochfein und schlank bleibt sich dieser rassige Lafite in seiner Stilistik treu und endet mit facettenreicher, dunkelbeeriger und hochreifer Frucht, die im Ansatz likörige Nuancen aufweist, jedoch keineswegs konfiert erscheint. Aristokratisch, locker und natürlich, erscheint dieser stimmige Lafite nicht bis ans Limit gepuscht, sondern in seiner selbst belassen. Feiner und eleganter als Mouton, bleibt der Lafite deutlich leichter und zarter als dieser. Eine reine Stilfrage. Suckling 99 – 100 | Rather ethereal and so refined with finesse, focus and brightness that provides incredible energy and pedigree. It’s full-bodied with ultra fine tannins that go on and on. Superb presence with tannins that melt into the wine. This is 12.8 %. I love the wine. Lots of dark fruit and fresh tobacco. Lead pencil, too. 92 % cabernet sauvignon, 7 % merlot and 1 % petit verdot. Parker 96 – 98 | Displaying a deep purple-black color, the 2020 Lafite Rothschild takes a little swirling and coaxing to unlock scents of freshly crushed blackcurrants, boysenberries and spiced plums, followed by emerging nuances of red roses, raspberry preserves, underbrush and unsmoked cigars, with a waft of cedar chest. The medium-bodied palate is an exercise in elegance and finesse, featuring tightly wound layers of red and black berries and loads of mineral sparks, framed by finely grained tannins and well-poised tension, finishing with fantastic length and the most stunning perfume. Magnificent achievement. This 2020 is a blend of 92 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 7 % Merlot and 1 % Petit Verdot, coming in at 12.8 % alcohol and a pH of 3.9. Galloni 95 – 97 | The 2020 is a super-classic Lafite-Rothschild of grace and finesse. A reticent introvert, Lafite impresses with its vertical lift and palpable energy. It is a wine of regal bearing that does not feel the need to say much, and yet everything is very clearly there. Bright acids and strong, saline notes come alive in the glass as the long, persistent finish unfolds with remarkable grace. The 2020 is simply exquisite. It’s a fabulous showing from the team led by Technical Director Eric Kohler. Martin 96 – 98 | The 2020 Lafite-Rothschild is much more intense and complex compared to the Carruades this year. This First Growth bursts from the glass with beautifully defined blackberry and wild strawberry scents laced with sprigs of wild mint and juniper berries. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins that frame the pixelated black fruit. This is quintessential Lafite in that it is not a powerful or immensely structured wine, but rather a First Growth with unerring balance and harmony, one that is unashamedly classic in style. There is just the right amount of dryness on the finish to urge you back for another sip. So Lafite it has its name tattooed onto its DNA.
